Hello kind Lady,
I am neither a girl nor a lady and I very seldom read historical fiction unless it is classical stuff like Austen, Dickens etc. BUT once I started "The other countess" I couldnt put it down. Totally awesome! It is really the best young adult romantic historical adventure I have read since long. Well done, Mylady, well done!
With regards,
Josh

My dear sir,
I am so glad you enjoyed reading The Other Countess. I hope you feel equally smitten with Lady Jane and Mercy from my next two books.

I was very disappointed about this book. I stopped after the beginning of chapter 2, I don't really think it's appropriate. It's a shame that people consider that "teen" reading. I'm just offering my opinion, I'm not trying to be mean.
Thanks for taking the time to contact me. The book is very mild in its treatment of sex and language - nowhere near as bawdy as Shakespeare! Teen books move the bar higher than children's fiction (which I also write) so some mention of sexual relationships, without being explicit, are usually thought unremarkable, as you would also expect in a PG-13 movie.

Hi eve! I regrettably read 'The Queen's Lady' before 'The Other Countess' without realising, however I thoroughly enjoyed it and thus asked for the first book for Christmas! Since unwrapping it I couldn't put it down and have just in the last few minutes finished it! I can't WAIT to read the third, these books are so gripping! I would love a fourth to be written! They should definitely be made into films<3
Thanks Ellie!

Eve, is the new era anything to do with the Queen's Coronation, as it is her Diamond Jubilee in 2013? Katie xx
No, it is for a centenary that is coming up fast.
Katie wrote on 23 December 2011:
My God Eve! You are a miracle worker to me; mixing history and literature together to get such an amazing combination. I must've read each book at least a thousand times over and I've fallen in love with every character; sympathising with the women, and admiring the courage of the men. You would make me the happiest fifteen year old girl ever if would write a book about Tobias and how each of the couples are getting on. We know Will and Ellie have a little boy, Wilkins, and a little girl and James and Jane have a baby in the third book but we know no more. Thank you so much Eve! Katie, 15, Kent
Thanks Katie. I would like to do so but it will depend on the publisher. I've saved 1588 for him...

Hi Eve,
Are you under the pen name Julia Golding and Joss Stirling too? Or am I mistaken? I love your stories... they just transfer me into a totally different world, and I just adore them.
Hi
That's right - I do use the other names. Julia Golding is fiction for 9 upwards; Joss is teen paranormal romance.

I'm almost done with The Other Countess! I'm reading it for "Young Adult Choices" {YAC} Ive never been able to read things that are written in a more proper style {like Nancy Drew}, but this book sucked me in. I can relate to most of the characters. I want a will of my own! When I'm done with this book I'll probably cry because it is so good! I cant wait till the new books!! Your style is unique and I like it :) thanks :D

Hi
I'm working on a duet of novels for 2013 and 2014 - seems a long way off at the moment but will soon be here!

I have recently finished The Other Countess and am now on The Queen's Lady. OMG!! I couldn't believe how brilliant they are. I literally couldnt put them down they were that good. I have also read you other books under Joss Stirling. I think I am addicted to your novels. They are absolutley amazing!!! Thank you so much for some amazing Teen romance/adventure novels.
Thanks, Chloe! Glad you like both sides of my output.

hi, i was just wondering why some others write under a different name is it to isolate their personal life from the media, maybe become another character or is there something else?
I imagine it is partly to do with what they think attracts a reader eg J K Rowling has no K middle name.

Hi, I was just reading through some of the other messages you get sent and I read one that said you went to Tuscany over the summer. I went there too!!! I stayed in a town called Montaione and visited San Gimignano a lot!! Is writing on holiday easier???
Can be but it depends - I have to spend time with my family and I can get sucked into a story and be a bit anti-social.

Hello Eve!!! I've missed writing to you too!!! If you could spend one day in Tudor England, what would be you ideal dress? I think I would like a very elaborate and elegant dress and a colour that would suit my greeny-brown eyes!!! I've always wanted to wear a tudor style dress, with lots of petticoats that swoosh when you move and a beaded bodice!!! Thank you for writing, I really enjoy talking to you. Bea XXX
Hi Bea
I imagine the clothes would be uncomfortable but I think if you only had to wear them for a day a really fine dress would be fun - with a silk shift to stop it itching.

Hi, I love your characters in the books, but Tobias is my favoutrite. Will there be a story for him? Thankyou, by the way, for writing great reads!
I hope so. It's been discussed with the publisher but only in terms of 'wouldn't it be nice to do his tale'. When I have more news I'll let you all know. Eve

Thanks! I was planning to buy your other books as Joss just to try them, see if I like them. I've read all your books so far and even if I have enjoyed them all immensely, my favourites have to be the Cat Royal books. You write so well and I'm glad you write for teens too. It was nice of you to think of my opinion. You said in another message that you wrote the Rogue's Princess in Tuscany. Did you like it there? We have just come back from San Gimignano, where did you stay? How long does it take you in general to write a book? It doesn't take me long to write, that is why I always hand in a 10 page essay when everyone writes a 2 page one!!!Were you like that at school? Lots of love BEA
Hi Bea,
Yes I enjoyed Tuscany - we go quite a lot to a little village that my husband's family have been visiting for over 40 years (it's near Florence). Books take about 4 months full time work spread out over a year or more. There is more to writing just the first draft of course - lots of reworking is needed. I think I enjoyed some kinds of school work that involved any creativity and would go over board on those.
beatrice wrote on 08 September 2011:
Hello! I've just finished reading this series and like others you have written, I really enjoyed it. As other people have said it's nice finding historical fiction for teens because most books aimed at our age group are ALL about vampires ( I don't really like vampires so I don't really read them!). Have you got any more ideas for any more books like these? And are you going to publish any more historical books for teens? Thank you. BEA
So you did find me here then! You could visit the blog I take part in The History Girls (link on my home page). Lots of the writers on that site do historical fiction. I am doing more in this genre but my most recent book is as Joss Stirling and you might not like it as it is a dark romance. If you do try it, let me know if it worked. No vampires I promise! Eve

Hey Eve i love this book so bloody much in fatc it is one of my absoloute favourites and i could not put it down for the life of me and i have re read it a million times! I just can't get enough! I myself write and i was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to make them better more refined? Or maybe even read a small extract?
All my love and blessings
Sarah xx
HI Sarah
Happy to answer questions but I can't take on reading other work as I'm really busy with my own - you need a proper editor for that rather than another writer. On making more refined, a good place to start would be to read fiction from an earlier period, for example Jane Eyre or maybe an Austen. You'll learn to tune into an older diction that isn't too hard to understand.
